St. Catharines Conservative MP, taking Michael Ignatieff's motion over cancellation of 10 percenters with contempt, decided to send out not one, not two, but three junk mail flyers to his contituents last week. One was reportedly 16 pages in length metioning the "Conservative Government" 53 times.
Way to go Ricky boy! That's watching the old purse strings!
I have some renditions of posssible 10 percenters that could be circulated to the fine people in the St. Catharines riding. How about these?

If it was 16 pages in length, it wasn't a 10 percenter. MPs sometimes send newsletters or what have you to constituents, but this is paid for out of their constituency budget.
Those newsletters actually don't bother me nearly as much as the 10 percenters. Whereas the 10 percenters are paid for out of a federal budget which is virtually limitless (it is limited only by the fact that each MP can only mail 10% of their riding's population per week), sending out a flyer from an MP's constituency budget means they must spend less on other things. This at least creates a disincentive for the MP to send the flyer, whereas there is no disincentive for abusing the 10 percenter program.
James, not to rain on your parade here, but the motion that passed only referred to out of riding stuff, not inside their own riding. So, as much as it pains me to say it, Mr. Dykstra is not in contempt there at all.
While people may agree and disagree over the mailing into other ridings, I don't think that anyone was arguing that an MP should not be able to be in contact with their own constituents. That's part of their job, regardless of their political stripe. Now if you want to go after them for what they say, have at it, but 10 percenters sent inside an MPs own ridings to his/her own constituents is right in line with the motion passed.
