We, the people of Canada, would like to wish you a very happy half century. Thank you, once again, for giving us the greatest memories of hockey triumphs we will ever see in our lifetimes.

The Latest in Facebook Scams

Don't do it man. Don't download that app.

From Huffington:

A new scam that appeals to both our egos and instinct for voyeurism is spreading like wildfire on Facebook.

An app going by various names, including ProfileSpy and Pro Check, claims it will offer insight into how many people have viewed your Facebook profile if you fill out a short survey and grant the app permission to access your information.

The scam has been making its way around the social network via status updates, which include a link to the suspicious service and text that reads, "My total facebook views are: 1245 Find out your total profile views."

From the flurry of status updates that are appearing on Facebook, it appears many are falling for the phony service.

Don't be one of them: Not only will completing the survey fail to shed light on the number of views your profile has actually received, but doing so will reward the scammer, who is likely to earn a commission, and, as All Facebook notes, "the whole exercise exposes your profile to malware and shares your personal information with an entity that will send you more spam in the near future."

Because he EEEEAARNED It!

David Braden has become the Federal Liberal Candidate in Ancaster Dundas Flamborough Westdale this fine snowy evening. He worked his tail off to do it too. The former Hamilton Councillor will be a force to be reckoned with when he squares off against David Sweet in the next election. Congrats to David and hats off to Anne Tennier and Brian Kerman for putting their hats in the ring and making this a good old fashioned, democratic nomination. And that, my friends, is how to get people involved in the Liberal Party of Canada. Open and democratic.

About those Subsidies to Politcal Parties

Does anyone else think it's pretty rich for Conservatives basically to be calling the other parties a bunch of welfare recipients for taking voter subsidies? Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the Conservative Party of Canada receive the largest amount of money from the Canadian taxpayer in subsidies and tax rebates? The hypocrisy is right up there with complaining about abolishing the senate and then appointing 35 Conservative friends to it.

Maybe next year Harper can sing this new Conservative Party theme song at their Christmas.

10 Reasons Why to Oppose Harper Candidates

By Kathleen O'Hara. An interesting, must read. Courtesy of "The Rabble".

My personal favourite?

In 1993, Mulroney's Conservatives chalked up a $38 billion deficit. By 2006, Chretien's Liberals turned this into a $16 billion surplus. Now, Harper has given us a $55-plus billion deficit.

What are Conservative Governments Good For?

Pork Barelling. That's what. Stevie Harper is now running neck and neck with the Mulroney boys. 38 members in cabinet. And he had the nerve to say Martin's cabinet was too big at 33? What a joke. Let's see. 5 cabinet ministers times $70k a year more in pay plus limos, plus, plus, plus......

Schwarzenegger - A Man Ahead of His Time

I met him in 1980. He told me his dream job was to be president of the United States of America. He knew then it was impossible with the constitutional challenge of those born outside of the USA being ineligible for the job. Still, he came close enough, don't ya think. Married a Kennedy. Became Governor of one of the biggest states. Not bad for a stuttering young Austrian who took up weightlifting to overcome that stutter.

Not unlike our previous Liberal leader, Stephane Dion, Arnie was waaaay ahead of the times when it came to the environment. And he took on the big three to prove it. Trust me, the big three didn't like that very much. Whether or not his legacy will be greatness or failure remains to be seen. I do know however that The Governator lived his dream out loud.
