Another Reporter Speaks Out Against MMP

As most of you know by now, I am not in favour of the MMP proposal in Ontario. I think this reporter sums up my feelings quite well. Who holds "the list" candidates accountable? Unelected people get to go to Queens Park. What a concept. I'm certain that won't breed contempt. Yeah, right.

Untrue comment about "unelected people". First off, the voters will see the Parties list and what method they were picked, and will vote on those accordingly. They will get the chance to pass judgment on both the list and how it was chosen - hardly undemocratic.

I explained this to someone else moments ago, so copying pasting:
The people keeping the list MPPs honest are both their party and the electorate of Ontario. Don't like their list MPPs? Then don't vote for the party! Pretty simple, and is as much control as you have now over party nominees anyway!

And there is plenty of contempt for the current system. A more representative one might actually reduce the level of contempt toward our political system.

You're both missing the point. The "list" will not be picked by the voter. That's the point.

Everyone argues over an elected senate as opposed to an appointed senate. There's little difference here. The Party gets to put a bunch of party favourites in. I see little difference in your proposal.

If this proposal was amended to make the list people the top vote getters not elected in their own ridings, I might have thought about it a lillte more.

Keep in mind, if MMP was the ultimate solution, more countries would be switching to it without having to have a world war a civil war prior to implementing it.
