Why Are Liberals Defending Helena Guergis

So much for a guy who claims he doesn't grant interviews or issue statements. What the hell is this guy defending a Conservative MP for when his party spent days ridiculing the Government in question period???

I guess he's more worried about his personal reputation than he is about where the Liberal Party is going. Do me a favour Mr. Donolo, get this guy off television before we're at 20% in the polls.

As the President of the Liberal Party it has not been my practice to issue press statements or give TV interviews. However, earlier this week, a witness made allegations about me personally. Testifying before a House of Commons committee, this witness made certain statements (repeated by government MPs) for which he enjoyed the privilege of Parliamentary immunity.
My law firm and I felt we had no alternative but to respond publicly.

TORONTO, May 12 /CNW/ - Fasken Martineau, a leading international business law and litigation firm, made the following statement concerning comments made today before a House of Commons Committee.
In November 2006, Mr. Nazim Gillani of International Strategic Investments approached Fasken Martineau through one of its partners, Alfred Apps, in connection with legal advice/services for International Strategic Investments.
Mr. Apps met with Mr. Gillani, received documents from Mr. Gillani and accepted a retainer cheque from Mr. Gillani. Mr. Apps previously had no knowledge of, or acquaintance with, Mr. Gillani.
Very shortly thereafter, Fasken Martineau declined to act on behalf of International Strategic Investments. Mr. Apps so advised Mr. Gillani and returned the retainer to Mr. Gillani. Fasken Martineau has had no professional dealings with Mr. Gillani or International Strategic Investments in the intervening period.

I wonder what they're all afraid of? I wonder why they don't think taxpayers need to know where half a billion dollars a year gets spent.

It's Not That Simple Mr. Kinsella

Warren takes a page out of "Kicking Ass" and meets the issue head on.

I mean the mere thought of a Liberal Party President associating with some unsavoury types should not be enough to trigger any burrs in butts, right? WRONG!

You see, if I were a member of the Liberal caucus who just spent two months of hurling accusations at Conservatives and Rahim Jaffer about a certain Nazim Gallani and the party president sat on his ass and didn't tell anyone about some sort of meeting with the same Gallani until it came out at a committee hearing, I'd be more than just a little out of sorts. In fact, I'd be asking for his head on a platter.

This is what happens when democracy gets thrown out within a party. Unelected leaders and unelected presidents. Some of whom claim to know it all.

Constitutional Crisis and The Conservative Party

Today's top story - one would think - would be one of a potential constitutional crises and an election.

What do we wake up to? Helena crying on TV with Peter Mansbridge. Funny timing that interview, no?

Election Call Coming

As I've been saying for days now, The Conservatives are geared up for an election. Here's another sign:

The council removed her as candidate because a federal election could be called any time, sources told CTV. If it is, the party needs to have nominated candidates in all 308 of its ridings.

I wonder how many Liberal riding associations are "without candidates".

It's Really Coming Apart for the Mulroney Conservatives

...Er, Harper Conservatives. Just looks like the last days of the Mulroney years.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.

There Will Be no Deal Come May 11, 2010

With the Prime Minister taking off in the morning for Europe, I highly doubt that there will be a conclusion to the whole Speaker of the House/Afghanee thingy by Tuesday May 11. In fact, it's my opinion that Harper has already decided that he wants to fight an election. Everything else leading up to that election call is just smoke and mirrors kids.

So let's recap the previous election campaigns that the Liberals ran on.

Paul Martin had the three K's, Kelowna, kids and Kyoto.

Stephane Dion had the three pillars, social justice, economic prosperity, and environmental sustainability.

And, if an election were to be called today, we now have Liberals going to the polls based on Maternal health in third world countries, afghan detainees and the gun registry.

I'm ready to fight an election on that. Aren't you?

Maurizio Bevilacqua Would Make a Great Mayor

It's no secret I have a lot of time for this guy. Garnering the most amount of votes in the history of Parliament doesn't hurt.

Now the question is: Who will kill to be the Liberal candidate there? Especially if a June election looms. (Did I say that out loud)
