Obituary for Gilbert Parent
PARENT, Gilbert - Former Speaker of The House, The Honourable Gilbert Parent, died peacefully Tuesday morning after a short but valiant battle with colon cancer. During his final weeks, Mr. Parent was surrounded at all times by his loving family. Mr. Parent will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather, as well as for his true love of his country. He is survived by Sandra O'Neill Page, and his six daughters Michèle (Dave), Monique (John), Madeleine (Mark), Terri (Sandro), Aileen (Tom) and Allie (Cary). He will be greatly missed by his 13 grandchildren Elyse, Elaine, John, Rob, Danny, Eric, Nicky, Rachelle, Jacqueline, Matthew, Adam, Christina and Michael. Visitation will be held at H.L. CUDNEY FUNERAL HOME, 241 Main Street, Welland, (905-735-1414) on Thursday, March 5th from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at St. Kevin's Church, 307 Niagara Street (905-735-5885) on Friday, March 6th, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made on Gib's behalf to the The Organ Donation and Transplant Association of Canada.
