I'm Gonna Bet Harper and Flaherty Guestimated Wrong on Afghanistan

Harper and the boys (read the Harris Boys) have told Canadians the budget guess for the War on Terror in Afghanistan is less than $8 Billion Dollars. Now the report is ready to be released and I'm gonna guess that it's much, much more. If that's the case, Harper can kiss Quebec seats goodbye and hold onto his hat everywhere else.

Speaking of "sound fiscal management", did anyone notice the TSX dropped another 350 points today. That's a 52 week low folks. Does that sound like a situation where we have sound fiscal management? Too bad we didn't have that extra GST money to fall back on.

Yea it must be Mr.Harper's fault that the world's markets are falling! Are you kidding me? Give me a break please. Explain to me how Mr.Dion would have stopped or prevented the sub prime mortgages in the U.S.of collapses hummm? Please I would love to hear it I think your readers would to. It should be interesting.

No Right, it is not Mr. Harper's fault that the world markets are falling and the Western world is heading into a recession on the back of the meltdown in the US.

However, it is his and Mr. Flaherty's fault that they spent the cupboard bare leaving nothing for the government to cushion the blow for Canadians.

The Liberals always planned a "just-in-case" fund to cover unforeseen circumstances and if those circumstances did not materialize then they put that fund towards debt reduction.

The Harper government discontinued that practice and Canadians are going to suffer for it.

Ottlib Mr.Dion himself said that even under a liberal government he would not be able to guarantee a budget surplus in a economic slow down, and thus risk a deficit. So way is it such a big thing if we should go down into a deficit in this slow down with this government hey?

The only reason why we are talking about a deficit is because the Conservatives squandered a $13 billion surplus.

If the Federal government still had a substantial surplus it would have room to maneouver. That is not the case any more so no party can promise not to run deficits.

Again, it is the Conservatives that have put us in this situation.

We had to rebuild our military from the dark years of the Liberals. We also had to fix the fiscal imbalance we had with the Provinces in which you Liberals never believed in. We also have the war in Afghanistan in which it was extended until 2011 with the help of the Liberals. We also got tax breaks etc..etc... Need I remind you that all of this was done with the help of the Liberals? So when I here Liberals on the liblogs talk about deficits I take it with grain of salt.

That's hilarious. Simple answer though. Liberals didn't want to be irresponsible enough to plunge the country into an election that wasn't needed. Kinda like the one we're having right now after Harper broke his own law for political gain, thereby costing Canadians another $300 million dollars. Yet another example of poor fiscal management I might add....btw the correct spelling would be "hear".

You now Mr.Curran your right. The Liberals didn't want to be irresponsible enough to plunge the country into an election that wasn't needed. Yea tell this to Mr.Garth Turner who has been advocating for an election for months now. Or to the rest of the Liberal caucus last spring when they were calling for one. The reason why Mr.Dion didn't listen to them was that he wanted to sell is so called "Green Shift" over the summer, that went well didn't? He said so himself.

As to:

"btw the correct spelling would be "hear".

Geeez I had no idea thanks teach LOL!

Stephen Harper broke the law. That's the bottom line. He broke the law of the land. His law.

"Stephen Harper broke the law. That's the bottom line. He broke the law of the land. His law."

So what you're saying is that this this election is illegal. If the Liberals should win this election since it is illegal anyways they (Liberals)would not be able to form the government. It would have to go back to the Conservative, because if I go by your reasoning it is an illegal election. So are you saying since the GG granted Mr.Harper the election she committed an illegal act?

Common please hey. In the law itself it doesn't take any powers away from the GG. She is the only one that has the power under our constitution to send the country into an election not the PM or any one else.

Dear Liberals,
ALL of the money went back to Canadians, to spend, and is the reason Canada has not sunk along with the US.
It is NOT a Liberal surplus!
It is a Canadian taxpayer surplus,
overtaxation.

Military spending, lots of Canadian jobs created, most likely saved soldiers lives too.

Fiscal imbalance, money to each province that the Premiers used to create jobs, fund social programs.
Charest gave $700million in tax breaks directly to Quebecers.

GST cuts, $6 Billion in the hands of Canadians to spend, keep the economy moving.

Tax freedom day more than a week earlier than when Liberals horded surpluses, assuming it was Liberal money.

$1200 a year per family, a Beer and Popcorn cheque the Liberals NOW think is great policy, and Dion is doubling it!

Paying down the National debt $35 Billion, saving billions in interest paid by taxpayers.

You could write about the woes of the British, the Germans who both have double-digit unemployment and are economic basket cases.
Where were you when under liberal regemes Canadian manufacturers were unable to buy new technology and processes to be competitive because of the highest taxes in the G8? Most left . . . the few that are left are the basket cases we see today . . . and somehow this is Harper's fault????
Just plain nuts!!!!
You have been listening to the little professor for too long . . .

I could write about UK and Germany, but I don't live there, and frankly don't give a damn what they do.

And I should write about the 8 straight balanced budgets under the Liberal governments led by Chretien and Martin...so should my leader for that matter.

Joshua, you shouldn't be drinking kool-aid at 3:32 in the morning.
