Liberal Leadership Put Off Until at Least 2013

Maybe even 2014.

With yesterday's call for a "special meeting" to extend the biennial convention from December 17-18 to January 12-13, 2012 comes the deferral of the leadership until sometime after 2013. To my recollection "Leadership" conventions and Party "Biennials" have never taken place in the same calendar year. I'll hazzard a guess 2012 will be no exception.

I encourage you to vote down the constitutional amendments being put forth on June 18, 2011.

As a new member of the Liberal party of Canada, I am undecided as to whether I want to keep the Liberal constitution intact or amend it to accommodate the proposed changes to the leadership selection process.

Hopefully, someone calls the executives attention to the rule that only allows $1100 to be contributed to any leadership campaign, no matter how long it goes on.

The leadership candidates from 2006 are more than 800,000 in debt still and can't really raise anymore because all of their supporters are maxed out.

So, if it's 5 months it's $1100. If it's five years it's $1100.

It's at the point where a judge is going to impose some penalty on those candidates who have essentially broken election law to run leadership campaigns they couldn't afford.
