George Smitherman for Mayor of Toronto!

Okay. I've stayed quiet long enough. The fact is, Rocco Rossi (who I like) is no John Tory. So, no, he won't be pulling a Tory by almost winning this election.

As for Ford? I think we all know he's just a little Kooky, no? And, no, running your dad's company under the tutelage of your brother is not the same kind of business acumen as a John Tory.

So, for my money, I'd rather have a tough, seasoned politician that has run bigger budgets than the City of Toronto's as the next mayor.

Yes, he's furious. But, frankly, Toronto needs furious...and lots of it.

While I'm at it....

In Niagara Falls feel free to vote for Jim Diodati as your next mayor.

And, if you're in the Hammer, don't hesitate to re-elect a fresh looking Larry DiIanni.

If you like Rocco, vote Rocco. 30 days from now Smitherman's campaign will be nowhere.

At least Rocco didn't have to wait the 30 days....

Jim, you've hurt me deeply. You've never seem to me as a guy who goes with the safe, standard, politics-as-usual candidate.

I weep. :)

Unfortunately for Torontonians they are in need of a tough politician this time around and it's no time to gamble on the if come. And Georgie boy is tough.

Ford is in waaaay far over his head and the sooner Torontonians wake up to that, the better.

Failing any last minute horses in the race - a.k.a. Miller - there are no real politicians with the budgetary experience as a Smitherman.

I'm just callin' it as I see it. I have no stake in the fight.

I no longer live in TO (haven't for about 20 years) I grew up there. Considering the times, the complexities of a city that size and the population (more than most provinces) I think experience is truly necessary.

I don't have a say, but I sure would feel safer if my home town TO was under good hands.

This Ford guy is frightening.

We Torontonians will be electing an "interim" mayor. The real race for mayor will start four years from now.

Like a manufactured boy band, Rocco Rossi is a manufactured candidate--not a very successful one I might add. His first major speech was to the Toronto Board of Trade. That's not good if one wants to be a community candidate for mayor. Next, he talked about fiscal responsibility. Yet, he would gladly spend money to get rid of the newly painted bike lanes from Jarvis Street. He focused on Jarvis that he ignored the rest of the city. The biggest mistake was portraying himself as a Mike Harris Liberal who is also a non-politician. Is Rossi a liberal or conservative? Has he been active in politics behind the scenes for many years, or did he just wake up from la-la-land and decide, "I wanna be mayor!"? Yes, Rossi is the candidate who doesn't like bike lanes on main streets, but supports shutting down the Don Valley Parkway so that his Becel Ride for Heart charity can raise money by charging cyclists an exorbitant amount of money to ride the DVP. Motorized vehicles have to take the side roads.

Rossi would be a great candidate--for councillor, but not for mayor.

There is an downtown-suburban split in support for Smitherman and Ford. Smitherman is polling well downtown and in the old city of Toronto; Ford is polling better in the suburbs. If Ford continues to poll well, I would not be surprised to see him campaigning with particular councillor-candidates. After all, the mayor has only one vote.

I think I'll vote again Ted Salci for Mayor of Niagara Falls. One of the best Mayors we have ever had and I can't wait to see him continue with the wonderful job he does for us. Go TED!

No question, Ted is a good mayor. 100% improvement over the previous guy. As everyone knows, I supported Ted large in his first run. I consider both men friends and wouldn't be let down regardless of the outcome, but I figure if this is turning into a Conservative vs. Liberal thing, then I'd have to tout Jim since he ran for a Liberal nomination.
