Conservatives Still in Majority Territory

Not likely we'll be bringing the government down anytime soon. Thank God we were in a hurry to get that leadership bid over with.

Chances are that parliament will be deemed dysfunctional and that Harper will again break the fixed election date - and very soon...

Harper knows that the coalition won't likely happen. He'll bring in a very conservative budget which the Liberals will not like. The government will be defeated. Iggy won't go into a coalition with the NDP. An election will be called.

It's pretty sad to see a Liberal pointing to one poll, but IGNORING another that shows the complete opposite.

I don't see the liberals yet forcing an election.

Note that Iggy's popularity numbers, however, are as good as Harper's. The Cons have not yet managed to hang baggage on Iggy like they did on Dion.

Even with Dion setup to be so much a dead weight to the Libs, Harper went into the last election in majority territory as well, and came out with a minority.

People need to stop thinking like the Democracts did under Bush for years: We instead have start seeing the negatives for the other guy, and be bold and aggressive.

These are only polls. They change not based upon total randomness, but upon the actions of the players involved. If you don't like the poll numbers, work to change them. I seriously do not see significant, consistent communication by the coalition parties in place designed to undermine Harper.

I attribute it to 2 things:
1) The poll may have taken place partly or in whole before Ignatieff was made leader.
2) Ignorance on the part of the electorate. I was talking to someone last night who still thought Dion was the leader.

I think in order to work against #2 Ignatieff has to get out there, give speeches, visit the ridings, and make himself known. That's the only way this election is going to be won, especially with the tories and their attack ads trying to define him before we do.

I agree with Erik,... Ignatieff should be out meeting people, etc and wouldn't hurt if the media broadcast him.

If we fight an election, we will win. We've got a great new leader Canadians will like, and with the support of top bloggers like you, how can we go wrong?

But the Conservatives might and they will win a majority, if not a huge majority. Count Priggy the Usurper changes nothing except the attack ads will have more basis.

James - you're entirely correct.. more so, all parties right now are in a panic to do whatever it takes to obtain or retain power.. the people and their parties be damned..

Cooler heads, more thought, less knee-jerk would serve everyone better.
