Many, many years ago!

Oh, stop your alarmism, James, typical Liberal. Those Liberals are so silly. Just vote NDP and everything will be OK, there will be universal daycare, the Kelowna accord for aboroginals, a real move to reduce CO2 finally, a withdrawal from Afghanistan by 2009 (Dion)...oh, sorry I forgot, those are all the things the Liberals were doing or would have got done, except for the NDP-CPC alliance.

Gee I guess LPC was right and it's four lost years and counting because of the NDP, notably W-Leis & Layton.

Good reminder, James.

Well, jeez, James. I guess great minds think alike.

I'm sure you noticed at the same time I did, but I'm a faster typist.

Cheers, Glad I'm not the only one who noticed.

Good catch Jim.
Funny - Harper's chief strategist back then - Prof. Tom Flanagan - was on Evan Solomon's Power & Politcs Power panel yesterday. He was encouraged to comment that "legitimate protesters that got beaten up and locked up deserved what - they should have known these Black Bloc guys would be their stirring up trouble and should have stayed away...Duh! He was passionately put down by NDP blogger Ian Capstick - but sadly - Susan Delacourt - the other panelist - ducked comment - as a journalist - I'm staying out of this...Double duh!!

Wascally Wabbit

How does that saying go about glass houses, and rocks and such?

For those who choose not to open the link - a summary from Wikipedia:

"In 1997, the APEC summit was held in Vancouver. Controversy arose after officers of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police used pepper spray and strip searches against protesters, who were objecting to the presence of several autocratic leaders such as Indonesian president Suharto. A subsequent public inquiry concluded that the RCMP was at fault, showing a lack of professionalism a failure of planning. The report also charged that the Canadian government interfered with police operations, possibly in an effort to shield certain leaders from being publicly embarrassed by the protests.

The Government?

Liberal.

When asked to explain the police use of pepper spray on protestors, Jean Chretien feigned ignorance and joked "Pepper? I put it on my food."

And let me ask you Rob. Did they shut down the whole entire economic driver of Vancouver during that outburst and cordon of the heart of the Vancouver entertainment district? And block off the major highways for hours on end? And have the Blue Jays (already in the midst of their worst attendance ever) play four home games in Philadelphia? And blocked off every major transportation route to and from the city such as Union Station? Not to mention every single tourist destination in the city including the CN Tower and The Hockey Hall of Fame. Did the US issue a no go to their citizens in '97 like they just did last week to Toronto?

I have friends that own businesses on King West that made ZERO money for three days. This should have been held at Downsview Airport. end of storey.

c'mon, James
Who shut down the entire economic activity in a 5-20 block area in downtown Toronto?
Why yes, of course, it were the mouth-breathing reformatories that spend every waking moment to come up with ideas to stick a finger in Toronto's eye!
This is the kind of absurd nonsense that is making typical, working, bill-paying Canadians to realize that our other-than-governing leaders keep looking for gotcha political stuff to show that anything but Liberal mind-speak is leading us down a path of goose-stepping reich worship. Show us the proof that the federal government asked that all normal activity be suppressed to ensure a sterile, Riefenstahl recording of the event.
Yes, plans were badly made. Local authorities buggered it and not at the behest of federal leadership.
The elephant in the room - no one who leads Toronto lifted a finger to even try to make this event a success.
Toronto - it looks good on ya.
You know, Toronto needs to chillax.

I guess if it was good enough for the pope and 100000 people, the Harper snobs wouldn't like it much.

What a shallow simpleton comment in response to a reasonable counter-argument. What's this blog called? Oh yes, something to do with Liberals ... that about explains it.
